It's impressive that it's matching ps3 sales launch alligned.  2016 is tracking very well and it will end up coming close to ps3's best ever year of 1.8m.

Next year and onwards will be good too.  The Wii U may be dead for a while but not for the last 15 months which is the headstart it had.  It also had an extra holiday.  Sales of ps4 are impressive and they will continue to be.

You realise that PS3 had pretty bad first two years WW because very high launch price, so fact that PS4 sales matching PS3 in Japan actually isn't good, especially because PS4 is selling WW around 3x times better than PS3 in some time while only in Japan is only on pair with PS3.

Comparing sales one of the fastest selling console ever and sales of Nintendo worst selling console ever, and fact that PS4 need 2.5 years to pass Wii U numbers when in all other markets that was done in less than one year, telling us that are sales of PS4 in Japan are actually very unimpressive.

You realise that ps4 had a terrible first 2 years in terms of software.  Very few Japanese games especially mid to big tier titles.  Almost all titles were also on vita or ps3 or on all 3.

You do realise that the Wii U compared to other markets did much better in Japan?  The ps4 outsold the Wii U after one week in the UK.  To do that in Japan would have taken a launch of 1.6m!!! Hopefully now you see why it's pointless bringing up that point.

The Wii U had 15 months extra on the market.

You know what's impressive?  tracking ahead of your 10m+ predecessor in a market that is dying. It's the only one of the 3 consoles that didn't decline a lot on it's predecessor. A solid achievement.
