It's because if it is considerably weaker, it won't get ports of 3rd party games. If it is at least OG XB1 level, it will be good to go, no issues.
Anyway, Nintendo didn't seem able to get full 3rd party support anymore. The relationship between both sides seems to broken and I also think that the gamers that indeed wanted 3rd party support already moved to other platforms years ago. So I see NX more as a console made by Nintendo to run Nintendo games. I think they will create a cheap console focused on their own software, so gamers that already have a PS4 or X1 will feel compelled to buy it because it's simply pretty cheap, portable and has Nintendo games. Making an expensive and powerful console means that people will probably not have money to buy it and keep a PS4/X1 and it's a but insane to try to go attacking platforms that already have 3 years of games and install base.
