Why do we insist that NX has to be another PS or XB, or else it'll fail?

The same was said about the 3DS. At the very beginning it sold horrible and it was speculated consumers saw it as an upgraded DS since it looks the same and almost named the same. When the price drop and good games came it changed everything, proving people were just not interested before. This was never achieved with Wii U because it only appeals to die-hard Nintendo console fans. 

Well then how can you say that people dont want the "in between" console anymore when the Wii was for everyone and the WiiU was just for die-hard Nintendo fans...?
