Well just think about this way. The only way for the NX to be more successful than the Wii U is to gain some users back from the PS4/Xbox share. How would you do that if you can't even be on the same level as them let alone surpass them? Why would people who were not interested in the Wii U buy the NX?

A Nintendo console that is powerful isnt all of a sudden going to cause the shooter/sports/action audience that owns a PS4/PS4 Pro/XBO/Scorpio to jump ship and play games they already have access to on a Nintendo console.

This line of thinking literally makes no sense.

Based on rumors/speculation/statemets, it would seem that consolidating the handheld & console userbases into a single ecosystem is Nintendo's course of action.

A single device or family of devices that sells 80 million units of hardware with ~500 million units of software will likely net Nintendo far more profit than having two seperate ecosystems that sell 65m & 15m units of hardware and 350m+ & 100m+ units of software.
