But here's the situation we're dealing with though. NX is said to be a hybrid. Where as Nintendo's handheld side is doing great 1st and 3rd party wise (mostly Japanese 3rd parties), Wii U isn't doing well because it didn't garner support from 3rd parties, Japanese or Western. Seeing that consoles are selling really poorly in Japan, including the PS4, Nintendo wants to do something to keep their brand alive by making this hybrid which will at least be better than the 3DS but it also has decent 1st and 3rd party support.

I don't think that if Wii U was as powerful as PS4 or Xbone, or was a console that was on par with 3rd parties, it would have sold better. Because at the end of the day, if you're gaming on Nintendo you buy Nintendo games. 3rd party games don't sell well on Nintendo consoles period.
