EDIT: Okay, okay, let me rephrase this: 2016 is the worst year for the industry in my opinion. If you have played games this year you enjoy, good for you, but every year has good and bad games. I am just pointing out shady business practices, questionable releases, and hype culture. I myself am excited for Final Fantasy XV, and the year has had a few good releases. I am not saying "Everee gaym suks this yeer!!" I am saying it has been a bumpy ride.

I'll list some reasons.

  1. Microtransactions in games like Overwatch, Deus Ex, etc. Microtransactions have been a thing for a while.
  2. Not a single Xbox One exclusive release XB1 fans don't seem to care, they're more worried about "Microsoft" exclusives for some reason.
  3. Sony making confusing hardware plans A slim normal PS4 and a 4K PS4... I fail to see confusion in that.
  4. Nintendo showcase is the most mediocre line-up for both Wii U and 3DS Don't disagree.
  5. NX rumor overexposure More like underexposure. However, due to everyone's curiosity, we've all turned into private investigators.
  6. Battlefield 1 VS COD Infinite Warfare is beating a dead horse, and none of them are really bringing anything new to the table. Then don't buy it. I don't like them either, but there are apparently a lot of people who do.
  7. Konami. Enough said. Konami got their just desserts and are now the laughing stock of the industry.
  8. No Man's Sky shows once again hype culture is awful, but consumers sucker into hype over and over again. The only thing in NMS that wasn't in the game was multiplayer, and it was otherwise pretty much exactly what they advertised; an exploration game in a practically infinite galaxy.
  9. The Division is generic as hell yet sells millions. (This is more of an opinion) Same as CoD and Battlefield.
  10. Street Fighter V does not deliver to expectations It served as a prime example of what you get when a developer is afraid to delay, but it also showed a fantastic way to do microtransactions- pay for them, or earn them in game.
  11. Seriously... how has the industry not been burnt out by FPS games??? Because it's a very fluid genre. People got tired of war shooters, so they switched to space shooters. We'll see a new kind of shooter, soon, unless we backtrack to war shooters.
I can't name a year in gaming where I have bought so few games. I seriously haven't bought one game released in 2016, but I've bought plenty of games released in 2015 and back.
