I'll list some reasons.

  1. Microtransactions in games like Overwatch, Deus Ex, etc. Overwatch stuff is learnable by playing and its only cosmetic stuff.
  2. Not a single Xbox One exclusive release MS has changed their strategy for gaming.
  3. Sony making confusing hardware plans The new PS4 is only meant to replace the OG PS4 and not to be an upgrade. The only weird thing about Pro is lack of real 4K gaming and no 4K player.
  4. Nintendo showcase is the most mediocre line-up for both Wii U and 3ds Still lots of good games. Zelda, Starfox, Paper Mario, Pokken, Monster Hunter, Pokemon.
  5. NX rumor overexposure What else did you expect?
  6. Battlefield 1 VS COD Infinite Warfare is beating a dead horse, and none of them are really bringing anything new to the table. BF1 is the only AAA game that has been in WW1 in recent memory. COD is eh.
  7. Konami. Enough said. Konami hasn't really been great for many years now. MGS games have been great but tbh the amount of games as a whole has been lackluster.
  8. No Man's Sky shows once again hype culture is awful, but consumers sucker into hype over and over again. Meh
  9. The Division is generic as hell yet sells millions. (This is more of an opinion) Generic doesn't equal bad. It's still a really fun game.
  10. Street Fighter V does not deliver to expectations Haven't played it.
  11. Seriously... how has the industry not been burnt out by FPS games??? They are very enjoyable.
I can't name a year in gaming where I have bought so few games. I seriously haven't bought one game released in 2016, but I've bought plenty of games released in 2015 and back.
