Nintendo has unified game library's from multiple devices before (Mobile on home console etc') and it was never some kind of run-away success.

And the Wii U most certainly is a Hybrid device.

Not even comparable to what people are speculating as portable gamers would still need to buy the home console while the home consoles would require an add on. That is not one unified library for the whole userbase as the userbases would still be separate.
