You'll probably want a pretty big display device to benefit from 4k at that distance. There was this one guy claiming you get the benefit at like 6 ft if you have 40", I think, but most charts you can find online recommend you to have an even bigger display device. In other words, at that range 1080p would be the best choice according to a lot of charts. It's probably not all black and white, but this should give you a pretty good idea of what you're looking at here. I'd say you either move a lot closer or get a TV as big as you can, preferably at least 50" but 40" should be good too.
