Patreon is a good form of alternate revenue streams, if Patreon launched a video hosting service, I can truthfully see it becoming competitor to youtube. However as is, Youtube will destroy anything in sight because you also have google adsense, one of the biggest form of adrevenue for a reason. 

Google could also play dirty with a Youtube competitor. For all we know an amazing competitor exists but Google is hiding it to an oblivion behind 30 pages of search results
