Did it, though? If you were a core gamer in Japan who actually wanted a jump from last gen, the PS3 was all by itself. The 360 was always niche there, doing only about 1.7M, and while the Wii was a huge success with the casual market, the PS3 only sold ~2M less than it. If the PS4 can manage ~10M in the shrinking console market in Japan, I'd say that's pretty damn good. Hell, the other consoles aren't going to manage to do anything even close to their predecessors. The Wii U won't even hit half of what the Wii did there, probably be more like 35% of the Wii's numbers. For XBO, it's even worse, with it maybe selling 150K-200K when all is said and done, so maybe 10% of what the 360 did.
