When Digital Foundry initially tried to compare he PS4 Pro specs and RX 480, did they bother using an AMD 8core and underclocking the CPU to 2.2Ghz in the comparison against the 480? Not to mention the Pro GPU likely compares more to the perf of a 470 due to reduced clockspeeds.
Because otherwise for comparisons purpose this is too flawed a comparison as to how the hardware compares, and gives us better insight as to why this checkerboard method was baked in the first place.
