Bad comparison, I think the mid gen upgrade is Sony and MS trying to stimulate console sales while pushing new tech. X1 and PS4 came just on the beginning of 4K and that's becoming a focus in media.
I think there is a motivation to broaden interest in 8th gen consoles, the upgrade does that.
