Personally, I'm not a fan of Edge. They seem to pass out a lot more 5/10's than other sites. That would be fine, but they do it to a lot of games that recieve 8-9's from other sites. If Edge doesn't like a particular game, but the rest of the press does, you can be sure that Edge is flat out wrong. |
But the 5s are the good thing about Edge.
In the scenario you describe, naturally if one site differentiates from all the others you will hesitate to believe in that single site, but that would be the case with any site. But I guess you think it just tends to happen a lot more often with Edge, that a 80-90% game gets a 5 from Edge (which never happens in Gameinformer for example). And I guess that's true.
But overall I think it's a good thing that Edge dares to stand up against the popular opinion once in a while, except when they do it just to appear edgy (no pun intended).
