I agree. At this point, almost everyone has their idea of what the NX is and is looking for confirmation bias in every bit of rumors or 'leaks' to solidify their point-of-view. Someone who believes the NX is a hybrid sees this as more confirmation to that fact. I think the NX is one platform with multiple sepearate devices so my confirmation bias sees this as them saying that they are only making games for one Nintendo platform rather than two seperate Nintendo platforms like in the past.

Thats point, everything indicates that NX is really hybrid, nothing indicates that NX is platform with multiple separate devices.

No, he suggesting one device that change concept of home console or a handheld.
"The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device".
Then you are out, at this point it's almost certain that is hybrid device.
No its not stretch at all if we count what Nintendo recently was saying and EG rumours for instance.

There, I corrected it for you, because you know, information is based on facts, not rumours, that's why rumours are called rumours ;)
By "if we count what Nintendo recently was saying", you meant the few things Nintendo did actually say about the NX, like:
IWATA: Last year we also started a project to integrate the architecture for our future platforms.
What we mean by integrating platforms is not integrating handhelds devices and home consoles to make only one machine.
What we are aiming at is to integrate the architecture to form a common basis for software development so that we can make software assets more transferrable, and operating systems and their build-in applications more portable, regardless of form factor or performance of each platform. They will also work to avoid software lineup shortages or software development delays which tend to happen just after the launch of new hardware.
Come & play the Crow game if you ar so sure of your theory:

I said infos with purpose because EG don't make whole article based just on some random rumours, they had confirmations for infos they had.
That wasn't nothing recently, that was from January 2013. but this statement is from March 2014. when they were more ahad with NX plans:
IWATA: "Still, I am not sure if the form factor (the size and configuration of the hardware) will be integrated.
Whether we will ultimately need just one device will be determined by what consumers demand in the future, and that is not something we know at the moment. However, we are hoping to change and correct the situation in which we develop games for different platforms individually and sometimes disappoint consumers with game shortages as we attempt to move from one platform to another, and we believe that we will be able to deliver tangible results in the future."

Yup, definitely delusional at this point, he become internet joke, he think that NX is Polaris based and PS4 Pro killer. :)
Iwata did said in January 2013. that NX want be hybrid, but year and half later (when they actualy start moving forward with NX plans) he said he is not sure about form factor of platform or that NX will be one or multiple devices.
"Still, I am not sure if the form factor (the size and configuration of the hardware) will be integrated. In contrast, the number of form factors might increase. Currently, we can only provide two form factors because if we had three or four different architectures, we would face serious shortages of software on every platform. To cite a specific case, Apple is able to release smart devices with various form factors one after another because there is one way of programming adopted by all platforms. Apple has a common platform called iOS. Another example is Android. Though there are various models, Android does not face software shortages because there is one common way of programming on the Android platform that works with various models. The point is, Nintendo platforms should be like those two examples.

Yup, in Jan 2013 he's talking about "brother devices", but a year later in Jan. 2014 he's now suddenly unsure if they need one device or multiple.
My guess is by this point, the R&D staff was pushing the hybrid concept hard, and that's the one that won out in the end.

Agree, in time when Iwata said this they probably start pushing hard to hybrid idea.
