To be honest actually I think a good story is the rarest commodity in video games.
It's easier even to do good game play than it is to do a really good story. There are dozens of games every year with good game play, but very few with a legitimately good story.
Truth is anyone good enough to write a great story likely isn't going to want to work in video games in the first place; why slave away in some dark office for hours when you could live in sunny California in the and hob-knob with movie stars and supermodels as a screenwriter.
