Yes the first scenario is superior in every way in this imaginary example. This example however assumes you neglect your child because you have crappy job. Things are not set in stone like that.

Its mainly based on my relief that I'll be able to hace a child in a stable home later on in life, not with some friend I slept with once but someone I care about etc. Having a child should be a happy experience between 2 adults.
