| padib said: This flood of articles defending what, in my humble opinion, is a flagrant mistake by Sony, are starting to get revolting. It's as if people were not able to blatantly admit: "This was an obvious mistake" as if somehow Sony was above making mistakes. Then, when companies like Nintendo make a mistake that is often very debatable, everyone is jumping on the company. The bias is really stupid. The issue with the article is here:
The problem with this decision is that Sony and MS are now not only competing for who will win over gamers. They are competing even more over who will control the living room. And MS is being very aggressive about this. To say that Sony made a decision based on its best interest so as to avoid cannibalizing its UHD players completely ignores this very important fact that it IS competing with MS, and therefore must cannibalize to ensure its competitor doesn't get an edge! That's what they did so right with the PS4 original, they didn't miss any feature, it was the console that got everything right and beat MS in almost every capability. Now with the Scorpio and the PS4Pro, that is changing. If the PS4Pro is capable of playing UHD blu-rays like this article assumes, then it was a serious mistake to restrict it from consumers, much like it was Nintendo's mistake to lock the Wii out of an HDMI output even though it was capable of HD graphics. |
"then it was a serious mistake to restrict it from consumers," There is no restriction. It's about Sony's decision in going forward with the streaming options while they can be improved over time with better codecs and video quality. They are ideally not interested in supporting the production/replication of specific format for the aforementioned video playback to masses which in itself is bound to restrictions. Sony wants to deem them unnecessary.
