| Soundwave said: I have some doubts too that Nintendo would unveil a system at a retailer specific event. I would not be happy if I was Best Buy or Toys R' Us or whatever. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But hey I'll be happy to be proven wrong since waiting on this thing has been a giant pain in the ass. |
I worked at Best Buy in the gaming department for about 5 years *shudder*. Based on what I know, I seriously doubt they would care about this.
If a product is going to be successful, Best Buy wants to be the one to sell it to you, period. They've had no issue with retailers having specific DLC deals, or special edition hardware. special skylanders, or anything like that. It's part of business, and getting spiteful about it accomplishes nothing.
Case in point, Amazon Kindle. Amazon is Best Buy's number one competitor, and one of the reasons they had been struggling with customer retention and profits. But, that didn't stop them from carrying or promoting the Kindle, Kindle Fire, and so on. Wherever the NX is announced, Best Buy will have their employees pushing preorders.
And honestly, Gamestop's market dominance is such that it would be worth it, even if it would piss off every other retailer. The only retailer that has nearly as much clout is Amazon, and Nintendo already has some kind of issue with them anyway.
