So you can easily buy a 1080 now where you live? |
Yep. Seems there is plenty of stock here now. Only a few places have one or two models of the 1080 sold out.
Everything is pointing to a big uptick in sales rate for awhile, a few stores I have chatted to seem to be happy with things atm.

You assume every PC gamer buys a PC as a replacement for a console, not everyone cares about the platform wars and will happily game on both.
| Puppyroach said: PC and console are two very different ecosystems so I don´t get why there would be a need to compete? Besides, you aren´t actually competing against anyone, since PC is an open platform that is shaped by it´s user, not a company? Kind of a weird statement from Sony. |
Valve controls the majority of the PC gaming ecosystem, if the PC belongs to any company these days, it's Valve.
Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft etc' all try to compete of course.

With 180~ million users 5% of users caring about mods is still 9 million gamers. And growing.
Completely ignoring the fact that you plucked the number out of thin air of course.
| SvennoJ said: 76 million gaming PCs, yet that doesn't seem to help game developers much. |
Those are cherry picked statistics of course.
There are PC titles which have outsold their console counterparts.
Ubisoft are not liked by PC gamers either. Ubisoft's uDontPlay is a testament to that fact.
PC Games also tend to have longer legs, whilst your console games have fallen into obscurity from last generation... The PC version will still often go on sale and hit the sales charts for years to come.

Not saying that the 1.8tflop diference will be wiped, but it will be a lot closer while sony will definetly keep the price advantage by at least $100. |
Teraflops was never the issue, it's not the sole limiter to whether you can run a game at a high resolution.
Scorpio can also use other means to achieve higher resolutions like Checkerboard as well, we saw the debute of that technoloqy with Quantum Break.
| torok said: I think your calculations are mistaken. I have this GPU. OC version, so circa 980. 1440p really hits it hard. 1600p is a no go. The Pro also isn't rendering at 1440, checkerboard 4K has much more pixels than that, so it really is doing a pretty good job. |
Your Geforce 980 can run most games at 1440P just fine with 60fps or greater.
More demanding titles you can do it with about 45fps.
I wouldn't call that being hit hard IMHO.
If you aren't hitting those kinds of framerates though, then something else in your system is likely holding you back.
Checkerboard 4k. (Aka. Double 1080P) is 4,147,200 pixels, whilst 1440P is 3,686,400 and 1600P is 4,096,000.
As you can see, 1440P and 1600P isn't significantly higher/lower than checkerboard.
