The whole "not storing" thing is more of a convenience than anything... I don't know my CC number, expiration date, CCV and all of that good stuff by heart. So I can see where he may have a problem with that.
Also, I don't know what kind of internet everyone else has, but I have DSL, so when I download stuff, even if it's like 40-50 megabytes, it takes me a good five or six minutes, longer if it's my laptop (wireless). So I can kinda see where not having background downloading might be somewhat of an annoyance.
I don't think that it'd be such a problem to store the data onto your individual Wii Console... The original XBOX did it, as does the XBOX 360 and PS3. They haven't faced "a thousand parents who weren't aware their credit card was stored..". At least not to my knowledge.
