Do you remember how much PCs cost back in the 90s? It was about 2 grand for a new PC which became outdated within a couple years (if not less). Adjusted for inflation the cost probably was around 4-5 thousand. Just because more PC might have sold doesn't mean a majority of those PCs were used for gaming. PC gamers were designated as dorks back then and the stigma still sticks today.
