The fact of the matter is 98% of the people who buy any given console never watch any of these press conferences.
There are press events for many products you buy -- sneakers, cars, hell probably laundry detergent, I doubt you are aware of press events for that. For "normal" people, video games are the same thing.
Apple probably has the most watched press events, and even those I would doubt any more than 5% of actual iPhone buyers watch keynote addresses.
