Sony can choose to define it however they want, but its clear we are in a generational-less market now.

There is not supposed to be a new model of hardware every 3 years with significantly more power. That's not a traditional video game cycle, if that is the new normal (and MS pushes it even further with upgradable hardware on top of that) ... we are definitely in a new era that's more akin to PC gaming.

There was no 500 GFLOP PS3 Pro released in 2009 or Ultra Super Duper NES released in 1993, if that is the new normal, than that is effectively embracing a model that is more akin to smartphone or PC upgrade cycles, rendering the entire "when you buy this console, it's good as your main console for the next 5-6 years" stuff moot. 

Mark my words too, it won't be long before PS4/XB1 "vanilla" owners start to realize they're getting the shitty version of a lot of games. Final Fantasy XV will likely be the first of many.
