It's kinda like the fat girl who's convinced herself men are evil and no man will ever like her ... honey if you actually lost the 200 pounds you're overweight in and changed your wardrobe, your chances of finding a guy would increase 20 fold. Anyone who thinks the lack of power on the Wii and Wii U didn't impact third party support is lying to themselves. The Wii would've gotten pretty much every third party game that gen (yes, GTAIV, Final Fantasy XIII, BioShock, Resident Evil 5/6, Street Fighter IV, etc.), if it was powerful enough to actually run the same games, even at just at 480p (1/3 the resolution). The Wii U even with its crappy sales probably would still be getting some support if Nintendo had chosen a sensible GPU like a AMD 4850, which was available to them in 2010 and would be able to run most current games. |
The thing is, as a hardware maker, it's Nintendo's job to coax them to release games on their hardware, may it be financial persuasion, etc. If Nintendo paid Bethesda to release their game(s) on Wii U they would've have.
At this point, it's not cost-effective nor do either want to take that risk with the other. It's a lose-lose situation for Nintendo.
