Square has never mentioned the budget for either. The original was reported to have a $100 million budget and the sequel supposedly has the same budget.

In pretty sure the definitive edition of the game didn't ship at full cost. Etherway, October shall be an interesting month for sales. Hopefully we won't have to wait long for sales numbers to update here.
