Should you decide to opt out, you will still receive random Crates when they occur, but you will not be notified, nor will they be displayed in your inventory unless you choose to turn the system back on. That is a pretty class system, you can turn off notifications about it so you can basically opt out of the whole system and not be annoyed that you got a ton of Crates unopened, as long as the option remains to turn off the system or being poked to buy keys in game that is fine by me.
