If Nintendo does VR, I believe it will be their next home console. If the rumors are true and this console is a hybrid, then they will have both the television and hand held market secure. This will afford them the ability to attempt a go at VR because if it fails, they still have their, "traditional" bases covered.
VR does not bode well for franchises like Smash Bros. or even Mario. However, if they create a great and inexpensive VR console that stands next to this hybrid idea, they could potentially sell both consoles and not step on their own toes. This has been my prediction for a while now, and I stand by it. Wii remote seems destined for VR technology.
