It makes sense to have a Direct for 3DS before the Christmas season, it's still Nintendo's primary revenue driver with NX only launching in March at the earliest. Expect Pokemon Sun & Moon, Dragon Quest VII and VIII to feature, and some new announcements for localisations, eShop (nindies) and Virtual Console, maybe another wave of SNES games for New 3DS.
EDIT: I also expect we'll see more of Ever Oasis. Plus localisation for Monster Hunter Stories.
