I'm sure a lot of you have heard about how Donald Trump has touched and spoken about his adult daughter in ways that many find creepy and inappropriate.
"I don't think Ivanka would [pose for Playboy], although she does have a very nice figure. I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."
Well, not too long ago I heard something that could explain this without Trump actually having the hots for his own flesh and blood. I can't track down the video right now, but it was someone who had close access to him, possibly the ghostwriter Tony Schwartz, who said that he deliberately cultivates the image of being a playboy or a ladies' man. This source claimed that he wanted to build a public image of himself to craft a certain reputation that he felt would help him somehow, at least partly because it would keep him in the gossip columns. Apparently, in reality he would just as soon head to his room and watch TV to unwind, but if he thought there was a pretty girl around he'd go hassle her to keep his image up.
I can imagine that, if he has for decades been cultivating a habit of making advances on pretty young women regardless of how much he was actually feeling attracted to them, he could pretty easily get handsy with his daughter just by reflex. The same goes for those creepy comments. It's just a reflex action by now.
What do you think? Does this sound plausible to you? I'm not prepared to say I'm 100% sure it's true, but I think this is pretty consistent with my perception of Donald Trump.
