Not for Nintendo, but maybe for people who want a traditional handheld they can put in their pocket. The reality is that the market for such a device is only continuing to shrink. A screen over 6" may mean they initially loose some of their old market but they equally have a lot more to gain by making their closer to a tablet in functionality. That industry is  pushing 200m units a year and is need of diversification, Nintendo can offer this. Annecdotely I feel pretty confident that most kids 8-17 would rather have a tablet, then a 3DS. Beyond that the hybrid premise is essentially Nintendo's future,

A year or 2 down the line Nintendo would certainly be able to offer a more portable version of the NX, but I'm hoping for an 8" screen personally, I also think it makes better business sense for them.

A handheld console that large would lose a lot of their current market, an 8" screen would make it bigger than a 10" tablet, buttons, analogs etc add a lot onto the size.

Nintendo will keep it small, or lose the vast majority of their current handheld userbase. Only the hardcore will remain. The home console side of the NX would have to drive all the sales to keep that machine alive.

A 6.2" or god forbid an EIGHT INCH MONSTROSITY, has no mass market appeal. It would be the end.
