Depends on which titles you pick up, but yes these can be difficult genres to learn at first.
SRPG-wise I think FF:tactics is a pretty good choice since I don't remember having too much difficulty with that. For God's sake man, don't try Fire Emblem first. That's the first game in a long time that I actually had to play the damn Easy difficulty. Stupid game makes me feel strategically retarded, not that I thought I was Napoleon or anything....I just didn't think I was that dumb at this stuff.
