To me, what Tree of Life was trying to show was: What makes us who we are? So naturally there is this whole universe creation scene, dynosaurs etc, to show where the whole species and our environment come from. Then the film zooms in on a specific individual, and shows how life events form that person, upbringing, major events etc. I think it's a terrific movie.

I think I get how the whole creation scene fits with the family drama. More or less. It felt a bit out of place imo, but, yeah, I could dig that. I really don't know what's the deal about those beach scenes. And the family drama felt... weak (Boyhood on the other hand nailed it imo). Nothing outstanding about it imo. It's a totally different way of making movies, and the fact is that I just don't get it. I feel good knowing that I'm not alone XD. I get Fynch for example, I love him, but Malick...

Fair enough. I'm totally fascinated with The Tree of Life and Malick in general, it's always a huge spiritual experience for me to watch his movies. Yes Boyhood is amazing!
