Not sure how he is testing that, because the DS4 only contains (1) small LED and it is only capable of pulling 20mAh. So the light would last 50 hours fully lit all by itself. In a 4 - 6 hour period it could only use 80 - 120mAh of 1000mAh.

You can see that the DS4 lightbar at full uses almost exactly 20mAh by watching the test in this link:

http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps4/DS4_Mods

In the link he tests it once with the light on and once with it off. The DS4 contains a 1000mAh battery that lasts 9 Hours and 30 Minutes with the light bar on. With the light bar off the battery last 11 Hours and 20 Minutes. A roughly 20% increase in battery life, reaffirming the ~20mAh of the LED.

So as I said before, if you went from the current 'dim' setting on the DS4 to no LED at all, you would get about a 10% increase in battery life. They can take the light away, but it is only going to give you a little over an hour more life. If they want to increase controller life, they have to put in a bigger battery. a 2400mAh battery would give you about 15 - 20 hours of random gameplay and video watching, which should be more than enough to make it through a full day of gaming with a re-charge each night (Unless you are doing a marathon, then that is well beyond normal use, and there ain't no way they will do that for the few that would ever utilize it).

So you think that a 2 hour increase is not worth it to let people disable the light at all? Even 10% is better than nothing, isn't it?

They don't have to take it away - they just have to put in the option to disable it completely for those who don't have any interest in it and the products which are supposed to make use of it.

Between dim and off is only an hour difference. I see no reason for Sony to make a change from what they already offer. The light identifies that the controller is on, and keeps track of who's who.

I feel like if people need to game for longer than 5 hours minimum in a sitting they have plenty of options. Plug the controller in, swap out the battery for a larger 2000mAh battery ($15), or buy a second controller. I have a USB cable next to me in bed or at the couch for my Vita anyways, so I never have a problem during the rare occasion when I have a solid 5+ hours to play, and I always keep my controller either on the USB charger or the charging dock when not in use.
