Interesting.
Having played the, admittedly limited, demo a few times I have real doubts that i'll have any real issues with the controls. It wouldn't be the first time I've liked unconventional controls that received a lot of hate.
The arwing seemed to control great. I felt no need to be looking at two screens at once (either tv or gamepad is fine), which is what many people complain about. I never had any issue focusing on the reticle and ship in any games so I doubt that's an issue for me. Probably a personal issue based on how your mind processes the information. I can't say I've really practised barrel rolls, so that something I should check out.
Still, despite my positivity, there's so much negativity expressed about this game that i've not bought it so far. It spiked my curiosity and presumably it must have yours too as you did get the game. In videos it does look like a great starfox game so it's a shame if it is bad.
