That's worrying.

The casual/hardcore divide is bullshit. Nintendo shouldn't use inaccurate rethoric like that.

Back when Nintendo made the Wii and were successful, they said that they wanted to appeal to everyone. Everyone!

Well "casual" and "hardcore" really became the terms we used for different kind of gamers during the 7th gen though.

Casual is just a term for a person who doesn't play much or doesn't have much experience with gaming and generally prefers simple games if they do play.

Core/hardcore is someone who plays a lot and generally prefers more complex types of games and can play basically any game with no primer/instruction/babying.

It's just semantics, not sure why people get so twisted up about it. Saying "everytone is the same" is equally bullshit, the person who spends 20 hours a week playing Call of Duty and Street Fighter and Elder Scrolls is not the same as the soccer mom who plays Candy Crush for a few minutes a day or Just Dance once a month when the entire family gets together.

We should be able to differniate that these are two fairly different audiences. That doesn't mean you can't create one device that appeals to both, but it's not easy, as the Wii U illustrated.
