Because it didn't get AAA style marketing over the years =P. Chucklefish handled the marketing themselves, released some youtube trailers and handled their forums as well as the one on Steam. Over the the apst few months I believe they only released two trailers for content and one LP from the crew a month before release. The game also had it;s reviews and did well enough for what it was and after that things went quiet (mostly again because it didn't have that AAA style marketing hype).
THe game was fully released on the 22nd of July and had the last character wipe for it. The devs are already talking about upcoming content in the next few weeks/months. They said they would continue updating the game over time with content and any other suggestions from their userbase.
They also made it possible now to play with your friends via your steam friend list, meaning you can easily hop into my game, play the story or goof around and easily pop out, all while holding whatever you have collected in my game that can easily be used in your own game. Also you can hop in my game and I can invite you to my group so you can then teleport to my ship or where I am in the universe, or you can go about doing whatever you want to do while hanging in my world.
