In my experience, it seems that teens and younger women are attracted to older men for the reasons you mentioned, plus the perceived notion that "older = mature." Then when women start hitting the 30s and 40s, they may pursue younger men as a vanity project to make themselves feel younger, and because younger men are more likely to be adventurous and energetic (rememebr that women hit their sexual peak around 40). But that's just what life has taught me.
