Uhhh... unless I am missing something, this console does look like its main design (in the three areas I mentioned) is to be played on the go. It uses mobile technology (doesn't mobile literally mean, "on the go"?), it uses cartridges, and the shell seems to merely attach it to the television making it nothing more than a video out cable (if the rumors are true). If more functionality is announced, then I will obviously revise my position. But in terms of form, functionality, and design, it looks to be a hand held. They keep calling it a PORTABLE console. Until the word hybrid became hot button, if I called something a portable console, it would mean a hand held. I feel like what I am saying is a little beyond you because I have already presented both Wii U and my daughter's iphone as examples of devices that are not truly hybrids or hand helds. Even though you could make the argument they are. Wii U does have portability (although limited) like a hand held and the iphone can be attached to a television. They are not what they are.

How you decide to view the console is up to you. I told my host the same thing. But I know you read my example and you know I was correct. I have learned through this website and others that arguing this is meaningless. I was agreeing with someone that echoed my sentiments because that person seems to be coming to an understanding I already came to. I did not post this to create more tension.

As far as your assumptions about why Nintendo would develop a hand held with this kind of technology, this is the same company that developed a Wii remote, reimagined the dual screen hand held device, glasses free 3D, and gave us a tablet controller (which lends to inexpensive costs on a new console when you think about it) in the last decade. I am not here to explain Nintendo, just understand them.

I also want you to remember three things:

1) Hybrid does not mean home console. So many seem to use the term hybrid as a means to justify comparing this console exclusively to home consoles. It is unjust to compare a hybrid in this way. And by its definition, a hybrid is not a home console if you believe it to be a true hybrid (example a Liger is not a Lion or a Tiger and cannot be compared solely to one or the other).

2) I am only basing this off rumors. If anything changes about the console or new information comes out about the console in terms of form, function, and design, then I will adjust my position accordingly.

3) Someone else I argued with on here called Wii U a hybrid. I do not know what to make of this community anymore...

Yes you are missing the fact that the NX would still function exactly like a home console. The Wii U does not function exactly like a handheld, and I doubt whatever phone you're talking about functions exactly like a home console, but if it does have seperate controllers and local multiplayer on a single system then yes that would count.

Exactly, motion controls were the Wii's focus, additional touchscreen was the focus for the DS, and now a system that can play on the go and at home is the NX's focus. They can't support two systems anymore let alone 2 HD ones so this is pretty much their only option. If you understand Nintendo then you should know that already.

I never said home console meant hybrid, only the opposite, and if you don't want to get into arguments and don't like this community, my advice is simply don't post!

On your Wii U point, do not argue with me. Please find the guy that disagrees with you and argue with him. In his defense, a console does not have to function exactly like both. A Liger does not function exactly like a tiger or a lion. In order to be a hybrid, it has to have both. And Wii U does have both. Not that I agree, just being fair in his defense.

On your function point, that would literally only make one of the three required places. But, if that is true, that would make it more of a hybrid. I will not deny that. And that would be pretty freaking sweet! However, I stand by my example with my host. Because even with all of that, without a shell to connect it to a television, it would be a hand held. And if the shell were released later, it would be a hand held with a shell adapter. It would not be a home console, or a hybrid. One of the biggest question marks is if the shell is packaged in or not. If it is, people will see it as a hybrid (really a home console) but if not, people will see it as a hand held with an option. Not to mention there is still my argument that this console's main/primary function is as a hand held.  While looking into the controller argument, I see it says, "possibly" in relation to it connecting more controllers which is probably why I dismissed it. I can take a rumor but speculation on top of a rumor I tend to ignore. But if that is the case, I will consider revising my position.

You asked me a question you planned to answer? I do not even get that. I do not even know where you are going with this part of your conversation. I am not working for NIntendo (maybe you are?) nor am I in their budget so I have to take your word on this one??? Like, the hell are you talking about?

What does that even mean? I have no idea if you are even talking to me about the same things anymore... I want to say I agree with you but... I do not know if I do or not. Reading it again, I know we are not talking about the same thing. I said hybrid does not mean home console. You said home console does not equal hybrid; you mean the opposite. That means you mean what I think you should not mean. Then said you said what I said you should not say. I think that is what happened and it confused me. Are you as confused as I got?

And I did not say I dislike this community (seriously? Am I the only one reading this?). I feel like you just took this conversation in places it was never intended to go. What happened here?

Yeah...
