No, they really didn't.  It's a new and fairly ambitious game, and obviously it was going to be a work in progress.  Whining and moaning without waiting at least a week or two to see if things were going to change is definitely childish.

I don't really think it should take up much data.  The pictures for nearby pokemon stops are already there, as are the locations of the Pokemon, and when they'll leave.  I'm pretty sure all of this data is already loaded in the game, it's just a matter of changing the interface.

ITs a game that has been broken from launch. Everything they get is deserved. They are no better than Dice, COD, Bethesda, and Ubisoft developers at this point. They also did a shit of telling anybody anything and have taken away every sort of assistance anyone has. Peoples opinions are 100% justified in my eyes.

The clear difference here is that the game is free to play.  If people felt the game was broken at launch, they found that out way before they ever had to pay a dime.  And they've been clear from the beginning that features are going to change as time goes on, which is typical for an always online game.  And, aside from ingress, games like this haven't been done before, so obviously it's more reasonable for it to have growing pains as opposed to the 6th Assassin's Creed game.
