It's never embarrassing. That is an illusion. Why would it be? Plenty of families PREFER living together. I don't live with my folks, but they are only a mile away and I see them at least once a week.

Why is it considered weird to live with your parents? Leeching off them is one thing, but enjoying living with your close family is something completely different. It is common in a plethora of cultures.

As an American, it almost seems like it is considered some form of weakness or shame here. It's bizarre.

It stems from the thought or mindset that people have to go on their own and pave their own way rather than be provided for by their parents. One of those marks of adulthood where you can take care of yourself.

I feel like there are always reasons why people may live longer with their parents, but at the same time, I feel like leaving your parent's home is part of growing up.
