How much are you saying the marketing is? No way it is as much as BvS 250 million.

Everyone here is a little askew of how the numbers work.  

Yes, the Production budget was reported at $175 million.  The advertising for tentpoles is usually $150-200 million WORLD WIDE.

 

So, the confusion comes from the stated 50% of the gross(during its first few weeks and it goes down from there).  That only refers to the US, not the rest of the world.  Outside of the US, the studio usually only gets 20-30% of the gross.  I recommend everyone going to boxofficemojo.com and looking at a films total.  It breaks down the US and international sales.  So, if SS does about 250 million in the US, the studio only gets about $125 million of that.  If it does 500 million outside of the US, the studio might only see $150 million of that. That would total about $275-300 million for the studio against $350-375 million cost.

That's why they think it needs $800 million to break even...
