Yes, they could sell games to more platforms, but thats it. Yes many of these things are assumptions, some can be averted if done right, but the point still stands: "Just going third-party" is neither going to solve all problems for Nintendo nor is it guaranteed to have any positive effect at all! |
I am cautious about this as well.
If fans were hoping Nintendo would revive old franchises like F-Zero, Metroid, Muramasa, Eterna Darkness, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, etc. then I'm doubt the possibilities of their revivals would increase if they go third party. Plus they might have to lose their 2nd party studios because money will be even tighter. The beauty of having their own console not only means being able to integrate software with hardware effectively, but also provide franchises that we might have not seen due to limited funds and such, such as Pikmin, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Nintendo Land, Brain Age, Nintendogs, Star Fox, Fatal Frame, etc.
If people are saying "just because they're Nintendo doesn't mean that their hardware will succeed despite overcoming odds before" then we could also say " even if just because they're Nintendo, doesn't mean third party will be successful."
