I still don't think that the sources have everything figured out. Their wording is very vague and could be said by anybody. That being said, if NX isn't to suffer the same slow start, why are they talking 6 months within the release window. Zelda and Mario should be day 1 games. Especially BoTW which is a Wii U port.
This leads me to believe that NX will have a ton of Wii U ports and smaller games to fill that time period. As for the Pokemon game...I know other people don't see it happening but I think Gamefreak will release a new Pokemon game for NX. Because, Sun and Moon is based off of an engine that already exists with minor upgrades. Essentially, it's the XY engine without a grid based geometric system. The graphic style hasn't changed, I imagine the 3D models from XY will return in Sun and Moon. So, the idea of a new NX pokemon isn't too farfetched. But if it is to be a new pokemon it can't be like Sun and Moon, it'd have to be what Pokemon fans have been wanting for years, a MMO. But even that's farfetched I believe. My guess is that it'll end up being a port or something, maybe a Gen 1 3D reboot.
Tokyo EAD said that they started work on their "next challenge" after the completion of 3D World in 2013. I'm sure they've had more than enough time to come near a completion date for the next 3D Mario. But we don't even know if the game in question by the rumor is 3D Mario because Miyamoto and Tezuka said they wanted to surpass New Super Mario Bros.
I just want NINTENDO to say something about it. This is killing me.
