2015 the Sumner average is up to 10k. Still not good enough.  the ps3 was doing similar in its second year.  But nobody gave the ps4 a chance to rebound like it did.  It would fall way behind in 2016 launch alligned. And it will have no chance vs the 3DS in 2016. 

 

Now move to 2016, the ps4 like the ps3 in its 3rd year is having a great year.  Good early month sales and an excellent summer drought baseline of 20k+. But apparantly that's not impressive despite 2 years earlier sales like this not being possible because "home console market dead".  

 

Now it's got many big titles coming in the next 8 months.  After that many titles will drop ps4 support and be ps4 only. 

 

Psvr,  PS Neo,  PS slim,  great potential to cut the base price far lower then the ps3 ever did.  All these positives are yet to come.  

 

Ps4 will definitely sell over 8m. Possibly over 10m. It's perfectly on track as of now.  I'd consider these sales excellent for such a tough market dominated by handhelds and even more so by android / iOS.  And especially when many claimed the ps4 would sell half of that.  

 

People nowadays can spin the ps4 regularly beating the 3DS as not impressive but 2 years ago and 1 year ago most people gave it no chance.  

Well you do have a point.But as always, people exagerrate.Its the internet after all.You cant take them too seriously, otherwise you will go insane.But you cant really blame them, since you also do the same.I mean, you just made a statement some posts before this one saying that the NX is probably going to sell less than the 3DS(and thus being somewhat of a failure if its a hybrid after all).People gave no chance to the PS4 in Japan yes, but you go on and do the same for a system that havent even be officially announced.You can complain, but you are also part of the "issue".

And to be quite honest, if you compare the sales of the PS4 to the rest of the world, it is a bit dissapointing.Yes I know, there is the situation Japan is now regarding consoles that makes that number seem good(and be good), but it is still a tad dissapointing.And before you say it, the 3DS already sold 20 million+ in Japan.It could sell more(as I said, its far from the best selling handheld), but I can give it more slck due to those facts.

I never suggested the NX would be a failure.  I said I think it will decline further.  If NX is the Wii U and 3DS successor and it sells 17m for example then that's good.  A decline but still good.  Just like if the ps4 sells 8m+ I think it's good and if it manages 10m+ then it's excellent. 

 

I don't think these sales are disappointing compared to the rest of the world.  Different markets and different circumstances.  In Japan even threatening to match the ps3 numbers is good. The rest of the world is not like Japan so that's really not important.
