It's just a generational thing, under 40 years old ... Mario is equal to Mickey, maybe even higher to be honest. Mickey Mouse hasn't been in anything relevant for a long, long time.
Mario wasn't invented in the 50s/60s/70s so kinda unfair for him to be as relevant to that generation.
