I think it's pretty unlikely that they would scrap mega evolutions. There are 48 of them, and I just don't see Game Freak throwing away all that work. It's one thing to not bring back an overworld feature, like seasons or walking with your Pokémon, but getting rid of a battle feature that's a significant part of competitive play? Has Game Freak ever done that before?
