I also think that remote play is a bit underwhelming. I'm not even talking about quality, but some points that were clearly letdowns: - Vita, or at least the slim model, shoulw have clickable sticks and R2/L2 triggers. Really. It would make it way more confortable and it wouldn't depend anymore in the quality of the re-mapping of the controls. - About your point, the quality, I also think that it's also bit unstable. It goes great, but then it lags from nothing. It makes playing any online game hard. The lag is acceptable in Wi-fi, but it's a bit pointless when playing in your house. I have a dedicated TV for the PS4 so it don't make a lot of sense to play this way. I've tried it over the internet once, it had too much input lag and my PS4 had a 60mbps link while my Vita had a 35mbps one, so it isn't a bandwidth problem. - It's not a "just works" thing. Over the internet requires that you open ports or set up a DMZ. Not very noob-friendly. In your local network, if you keep the "direct connection" option on, it sometimes will connect directly even if the signal it's weak, instead of using the wi-fi network, so I turned it off. To sum it up: it works in local network, but the PS4 must be cabled and Wi-fi signal must be strong for the Vita, so you have to set up your network accordingly. Over the internet, not so great. Playable, but not so great. |
Aye the set up for remote play outside of your home wifi is really going to be beyond that of the average user I think and the end result if you do manage it is fairly weak which is a shame because if you have the ps4 set to use a wired lan connection the home remote play can be fantastic.
I make use of it a lot if we are sitting down to watch some stuff on the big screen or if I'm in bed I'm in a room directly above the PS4 so get a great connection to it to continue a game while chiling out. Vita's remote play for me makes it an even better product since buying the ps4, gives the nice features of the wii-u but for the playstation systems.
