Last time I checked there are several games that are in Wii U VC, NES remix and upcoming NES mini and not to include remasteres that appear every gen. I acknowledge that super Mario 3D world is not a rehash. But releasing same game several times in short time is true rehash. And Nintendo does it all the time.

As for Nintendo going third party; because they are not adding much as a hardware owner. They will be forced to innovate when competing with other software makers as third party developer. As for competition; market doesn't like vaccum. If there is space then someone more capable will take Nintendos place as hardware maker.

So you don't like Nintendo's current software output, and you think by going third-party the company will conform to current "AAA" design philosophies? And another company will fill the void left by Nintendo? Thus ensuring competition?

It's not only me who doesn't like Nintendos software output; it's the market. Look at 2016 Nintendos games. How many games do they have? Wii's support died after 2010 and they never recovered. Survival the fittest. Nintendo will have a hard time if they are only handheld next gen. As for competition; market will change automatically. If no one comes in to fill Nintendos void then it will change accordingly.

Whatever view I possess is based on my surroundings. I used to see kids playing DS; heck I played Gameboy and saw many kids playing it. Now I see kids having Amazon Fire tablet or iPads. Even though I don't like mobile gaming have purchased games from App Store. Handhelds were Nintendos bread and butter in every gen and this gen they needed most. But they can't make it successful because market has changed a lot. Given the status of market I don't see a place in the market for Nintendo and they can try something by going third party.
