Everybody's always forgetting the GameCube ;(

That bugs me as well. It's only been two generations since Nintendo had the most powerful console on the market, yet everyone is always pretending like they never delivered cutting edge. Until the Wii they really only followed the 'cheap, mature parts' strategy established by Gunpei Yokoi for the gameboy in their mobile consoles.

They also set technological precedents like true 64 bit consoles (iirc) with the N64 and using PowerPC with the GameCube.
